An account of the program's own
Updated November 5, 2026
A program can buy itself a Terebyte account and use it with no person in the loop, then hand it to its owner.
Buy, create, use
- Buy a prepaid code (terebyte.com/codes): by card, one at a time or in bulk, or by an agent that holds a card. There's no free tier through the API: payment first, then the account exists.
- Create the account on the program's computer:
`` npx terebyte account create --code ABCD-EFGH-JKMN-PQRS ``
It makes the account's 12 words (its sign-in and its vault) on this computer, and gets a device token. Both are kept in ~/.terebyte/account.json, readable only by this user. Nothing else ever leaves the computer.
- Use it:
npx terebyte account put <file> [name],npx terebyte account ls,npx terebyte account get <name>. Everything is encrypted on the computer before it's sent.
New accounts by program are limited per network and per hour. Under the API Terms, an account a program makes is the responsibility of whoever runs the program, until its owner claims it.
Hand it to its owner
npx terebyte account claim-linkprints a link for the account's owner. Send it privately. The owner opens it and chooses Make it mine: that sets their passphrase and ends the program's key everywhere. The program keeps nothing, unless the owner ticks to leave it a door with the limits it has.
The calls
Every call is in the OpenAPI file at terebyte.com/openapi.json; the kits make them for you.
