Terms of Service
Effective October 8, 2026
These Terms are the agreement between you and Terebyte, Inc., a Delaware corporation (“Terebyte”, “we”, “us”), for using Terebyte. Please read them; by creating an account or using Terebyte you agree to them.
In short
- Your files are encrypted on your device. We can’t read them, and we can’t recover them if you lose both your passphrase and your recovery key.
- You own what you store. We only store and deliver it, encrypted.
- Don’t use Terebyte for anything illegal or harmful, or to share things you don’t have the right to share.
- Paid plans renew until you cancel, and you can cancel any time.
This summary helps you find your way; the sections below are what counts.
1. Your account
You must be at least 16 years old, and old enough to agree to these Terms where you live. You sign in with your email address (or Google, where offered); keep that email account secure, because whoever controls it can sign in to Terebyte. Each person may have one account per email inbox. Temporary or disposable email services can’t be used.
You’re responsible for what happens in your account. To keep the service healthy we may limit, slow or decline new accounts and uploads that look automated or abusive.
2. Encryption, and your keys
Terebyte is end-to-end encrypted. Files and file and folder names are encrypted in your browser before upload, with keys derived from your vault passphrase that never leave your device. We store ciphertext that we can’t decrypt.
That means we can’t reset your passphrase or recover your files. When you create your vault, you get a recovery key. If you forget your passphrase, the recovery key lets you set a new one. If you lose both, your files can’t be opened by you or by anyone else, us included. Keep your recovery key somewhere safe and offline.
Because we can’t see your files, we can’t check them, search them, or give their contents to anyone, including authorities. See the Privacy Policy for what we can see.
3. Plans, space and downloads
Every plan includes every feature; plans differ in how much you can store. Storage is counted in encrypted bytes (very slightly more than your files’ own sizes), in decimal units: 1 GB is 1,000,000,000 bytes.
- Downloads. Each month you can download up to three times what you store, and always at least your plan’s minimum (3 GB on Free, 300 GB on Starter, 600 GB on Pro, 1 TB on Power). Downloads include previews and downloads through your share links. Share links can use up to 80% of the month’s downloads; the rest is always kept for you. If downloads run out, they pause until the next month begins; your files stay safe and uploads keep working. We email you when you’ve used 80%.
- New free accounts have temporary upload limits that stop abuse; normal use doesn’t reach them, and paid plans never have them.
- Inactive free accounts. A free account that isn’t used (no sign-in and no vault unlock) for 12 months is removed with its files. We email you about a month before and about a week before; signing in at any point keeps your account. Paid accounts are never removed for inactivity.
4. Paid plans and billing
Prices are in US dollars and shown on our pricing page before tax. Yearly billing costs eleven times the monthly price.
Who sells paid plans
Paid plans are sold through Link, a service of Stripe, which acts as the reseller and merchant of record for your purchase. Link takes your payment, charges and collects any sales tax or VAT, sends your receipts and invoices, and handles questions about charges. Your purchase is also covered by Link’s terms, which you’ll see at checkout. Your card statement shows LINK.COM*TEREBYTE. We never see or store your full card details.
Renewal and cancellation
Paid plans are subscriptions that renew automatically at the end of each monthly or yearly period, at the price shown when you subscribed, until you cancel. Link charges your payment method on each renewal. Link reminds you before yearly renewals, and where the law requires, before others too.
You can cancel at any time in Settings → Plan & storage → Manage billing, or in your account at link.com. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the period you’ve paid for; until then you keep your plan.
Refunds
Except as described here or required by law, payments aren’t refundable and we don’t give credit for partly used periods. If something went wrong with a charge, or you were charged after cancelling, write to support@terebyte.com and we’ll put it right. Link may also refund purchases within 60 days in certain cases under its own refund policy, and you keep any right to withdraw or cancel that the consumer law of your country gives you.
Changing plans
You can move to a bigger or smaller plan at any time. Any charge or credit for the rest of your current period is shown before you confirm. A smaller plan needs your files to fit in it: if you store more than a plan includes, you can still open, download and delete your files, but not upload more until you’re within your plan.
When a paid plan ends
If your paid plan ends (you cancel, or a renewal can’t be charged and isn’t resolved), your account moves to the Free plan. If you store more than the Free plan includes, your account becomes read-only: you can open, download and delete files, but not upload. Your files stay safe for 90 days. We’ll email you when your plan ends, remind you after 30 and 60 days, and again a week before the 90 days are up. If the account still holds more than the Free plan includes after 90 days, we may delete files from it, starting with the most recently uploaded, until it fits. Subscribing again at any point ends this: your new plan starts that day, and you’re never charged for the time in between.
Price changes
We may change prices for future periods. We’ll tell you at least 30 days before a change affects your subscription, and you can cancel before it does.
5. Your content
You keep all rights to the files you store. You give us only the permission we need to run Terebyte for you: to store, copy (for storage and delivery), and transmit your encrypted files, and to deliver them to you and to the people you share links with. We never use your content for advertising or to train AI; being encrypted, it isn’t readable to us in the first place.
You’re responsible for having the rights to what you store and share, and for keeping your own copies of anything important.
6. Share links
A share link lets anyone who has it download the shared file, so share it only with people you trust; add a password or an expiry date for extra protection. The key to a shared file is in the part of the link after the “#”, which browsers don’t send to us. Downloads through your links count toward your monthly downloads. You can turn a link off at any time in Shared links.
7. Acceptable use
You may not use Terebyte to:
- store or share child sexual abuse material, or anything else illegal where you are or in the United States;
- share content that infringes copyright or other rights;
- distribute malware, or host phishing pages or files used for fraud;
- harass, threaten or exploit anyone, or share someone’s intimate images without their consent;
- send spam, or use share links for mass distribution or as a public download service;
- probe, attack or overload Terebyte, get around its limits (including with several accounts), or access it through automated means other than our apps and pages;
- resell Terebyte or provide it to others as a service without our written agreement.
We can’t see your files, so we act on reports about share links (see Copyright & abuse) and on what we can observe, such as automated or abusive use. When these rules are broken, we may turn off share links, suspend or close the account, and report to the authorities where required, notably reports of child sexual abuse material to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children. Accounts that repeatedly infringe copyright are closed.
8. The service
We work to keep Terebyte available and your files safe, with redundant storage at our storage provider. Still, no service is perfect: Terebyte is provided “as is” and “as available”, and we don’t promise it will be uninterrupted or error-free. Keep your own copies of files you can’t afford to lose. We may change or improve features over time; if we ever stop offering Terebyte, we’ll give you at least 60 days’ notice to download your files, and refund any unused part of a prepaid period.
9. Closing your account
You can delete your account at any time in Settings → Delete account. Your files, versions and share links are deleted right away (and removed from storage within hours), and any paid plan is cancelled so it doesn’t renew. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these Terms, or when the law requires; where it’s reasonable and allowed, we’ll tell you why and give you a chance to download your files.
10. Disclaimers and limits of liability
To the extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties not stated in these Terms, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. To the extent the law allows, Terebyte, Inc. isn’t liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost data, profits or revenue; and our total liability for any claim relating to Terebyte is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim and US$50.
Nothing in these Terms limits liability that can’t be limited by law, or takes away rights you have as a consumer under the mandatory law of the country where you live.
11. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Disputes will be heard in the state or federal courts located in Delaware, and you and we agree to their jurisdiction. If you’re a consumer living outside the United States, you can also bring a claim in the courts of your home country, and its mandatory consumer protections still apply. Before going to court, please write to legal@terebyte.com: most problems can be solved quickly.
12. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. If a change matters, we’ll email you or tell you in the app at least 30 days before it takes effect (sooner only where the law or security requires), and ask you to agree when you next sign in. If you don’t agree, you can close your account before the change takes effect; a paid plan is then refunded for the unused part of its period.
13. General
These Terms, the Privacy Policy and the Copyright & abuse policy are the whole agreement between you and us about Terebyte. If part of them can’t be enforced, the rest still applies. If we don’t enforce a right straight away, we haven’t given it up. You may not transfer these Terms without our consent; we may transfer them to a company that takes over Terebyte, on the same terms. You may not use Terebyte where US sanctions or export laws forbid it.
