Claude and ChatGPT
Updated October 29, 2026
Use Terebyte from Claude or ChatGPT as a connector. The assistant works in the room you give it a door to, and it reaches that room through a computer of yours, never through ours.
Connect to Claude
On a computer of yours with Node.js 22 or newer:
npx terebyte connect claude- The command starts your connector: it gives you an address of your own, ending in
.connector.terebyte.com/mcp, copies it, and opens Claude's connectors page. - In Claude, choose Add custom connector. Name it Terebyte and paste the address. Then Add, then Connect.
- A page shows a 6-character code. On terebyte.com, open Rooms → Connect an agent and type it. Terebyte shows what the assistant asks for: choose the room, what it may do and for how long, then approve.
- In a chat, turn on Terebyte and ask, for example, "List my Terebyte rooms."
Keep the command running. Claude reaches your room only while it does: when that computer is off or asleep, Claude can't reach your room and shows its own connection error. npx terebyte bridge does the same without opening anything (for a computer that's always on).
Custom connectors need a paid Claude plan. The same address works in Claude Code (claude mcp add --transport http terebyte <your address>).
ChatGPT
Add the same address as a custom connector in ChatGPT's Developer Mode (on its paid plans), and sign in with the code the same way. ChatGPT marks a custom connector as unverified and asks you to confirm its actions in the chat. Terebyte isn't in ChatGPT's directory, which asks for one address for everyone.
What the assistant can do
The tools are the MCP server's (The MCP server): list rooms and files, read and write files, make a Sealed Link, and the room's board, claims and reservations. Each tool says whether it only reads. The door decides what's allowed: a door that can only read can't write, whatever the assistant asks.
Privacy
The connection is encrypted all the way to your own computer. Terebyte passes it on without being able to read it, and keeps no record of what passes or whose it is. Your connector's address and its certificate's key are made on your computer; the key never leaves it.
Each assistant you connect gets its own door, which you can pause or close on the Rooms page, and undo what it did.
