Ghost Account
Updated October 14, 2026
Every Terebyte account is private; we can't read your files. A Ghost Account goes one step further: no email, no name, nothing about you at all.
No email. Not even at sign-up. Your 12 words are made on your device. Terebyte never receives them.
How it works
Choose “Ghost Account” when you sign up. Your device makes 12 words; from them come the key that signs you in and the key that encrypts your files. We keep only the public half of the sign-in key, your Account ID. Print the Account Kit (the words, a QR of them, your Account ID), type three words back, and pay. Print it and keep it somewhere safe; it’s the only copy of your account.
Paying
The same plans and prices as any account. The account holds nothing until it’s paid for; there’s no free allowance on this kind. Pay with a prepaid code. Codes bought by card are not anonymous to your bank or to Stripe.
Paid through a date, never renewed
Your account shows the date it’s paid through, and reminds you in the app 30, 14, 7, 3 and 1 days before. After that it’s read-only for 7 days (a monthly payment) or 90 days (a yearly one), then deleted.
If you lose the words
Nobody can open that account again, not you and not us. Its paid time can move to a new account, on proof of payment. Make a new account, then ask from it: Settings → Move paid time from a lost account. We answer within one business day.
