Copyright & abuse
Effective October 8, 2026
To report a Terebyte share link for copyright infringement, malware, phishing, illegal content or any other abuse, email abuse@terebyte.com. Every report is read by a person.
1. How reports work on an encrypted service
Terebyte is end-to-end encrypted: we can’t see what members store, so we don’t scan or monitor files. What can reach other people is a share link, and that’s what reports are about. A share link looks like https://terebyte.com/s/…#…. Please include the whole link, including the part after the “#”: that’s the key to the shared file, and without it no one, including us, can open it to check your report.
When a report is valid, we turn the link off. Depending on what we find, we may also suspend or close the account behind it.
2. Reporting abuse
Email abuse@terebyte.com with the whole share link and a short description of the problem (for example: malware, phishing, harassment, or someone’s intimate images shared without consent). We act on clear violations of our acceptable use rules as quickly as we can, usually the same day.
Child sexual abuse material
If a link contains child sexual abuse material, report it to us at abuse@terebyte.com and to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children at report.cybertip.org (outside the US, your national hotline listed at inhope.org). Please don’t download or forward the material yourself. We turn such links off immediately, close the account, and report to NCMEC as US law requires.
3. Copyright notices (DMCA)
Terebyte, Inc. responds to notices of alleged copyright infringement under the US Digital Millennium Copyright Act (17 U.S.C. § 512). Send your notice to our designated agent:
Copyright Agent, Terebyte, Inc.
Postal address on request by email
Email: abuse@terebyte.com
Your notice must include:
- your physical or electronic signature, as the copyright owner or someone authorized to act for them;
- the copyrighted work you say is infringed (or, for several works, a representative list);
- the whole Terebyte share link where the material is available, including the part after the “#”;
- your name, postal address, phone number and email address;
- a statement that you have a good-faith belief that the use is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law; and
- a statement that the information in the notice is accurate and, under penalty of perjury, that you are the owner or authorized to act on the owner’s behalf.
When we receive a complete notice, we turn the link off and tell the member, with a copy of the notice (we may remove your personal contact details). Knowingly false notices can make the sender liable for damages under § 512(f).
4. Counter-notices
If your link was turned off because of a copyright notice and you believe that was a mistake or that you have the right to share the material, you may send a counter-notice to abuse@terebyte.com with:
- your physical or electronic signature;
- the share link that was turned off;
- a statement, under penalty of perjury, that you have a good-faith belief the material was removed as a result of mistake or misidentification;
- your name, address and phone number, and a statement that you consent to the jurisdiction of the federal district court for your address (or, if you’re outside the US, any judicial district where Terebyte, Inc. may be found), and that you will accept service of process from the person who sent the notice or their agent.
We forward valid counter-notices to the person who sent the original notice. Unless they tell us within 10 business days that they’ve filed a court action, you may share the file again; we can’t restore a link that was turned off, but you can create a new one 10 to 14 business days after we receive your counter-notice.
5. Repeat infringers
We close the accounts of members who repeatedly share material that infringes copyright, under our Terms of Service.
6. Law enforcement
Requests from law enforcement and other authorities go to legal@terebyte.com. We respond to valid legal process with the account information we have, described in our Privacy Policy. We can’t provide the contents or names of files, because we don’t hold the keys.
